The Black Sun: Original Encaustic Mandala Painting with Rainbow Border

Description

This painting measures 24-33cm long and is mixed media including encaustic wax, markers and washi tape. This piece is the central part of the mandala series which incorporate the four elements earth air fire and water. This is th fifth element or aether – perhaps dark matter – which I chose to depict as a dark sun radiating unseen energy into the universe.

Mandalas are ancient symbols of calm healing energy which inspire meditation and contemplation. They are the perfect centrepiece to any sacred space or can add calming energy to a busy environment such as an office or living room. The intricate nature of the patterns allows the mind to become lost in contemplation of the circular wholeness of infinity. Or in the case of these half mandalas which I enjoy painting, the imagination can complete the circle.
